Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its troubles, it empties today of its strength.
What if…what if…what if…what if!
Very little in life is certain, and much of what we have to deal with in our day to day lives can go any number of ways. We can spend so much valuable time trying to reduce and manage uncertainty, but to what end? How do we prepare for the unknown? And, even if we accept we cannot, how do we stop trying?
Worry is broadly the intolerance of uncertainty coupled with self-doubt…i.e. I don’t know what is going to happen in the future and I don’t trust myself to manage when I get there. It is not evidence based, and does not care about all the times you have coped in the past. It tends to present itself in hypothetical ‘what if…’ statements, and thoughts of catastrophe and worst case scenario.
Worry can leave you with a very busy mind, not able to relax even when everything is going well. It can rob you of your attention and concentration, leave you snappy and irritable and foster a sense or overwhelm and even doom.
It might be a good time to start to manage your worry…
